Russia’s second biggest city, Saint Petersburg – which is widely regarded as its cultural capital – also has its own renowned LGBTQ+ club night: ГРАНЬ (‘Grahn’, meaning edge). The night, organised by DJ and producer Nastia Riegel and creative director Roman Gunt, takes place once a month in an underground club ‘КЛУБ’ (also nicknamed ‘Kisloty’, meaning acid) which occupies an enormous building in a former railway station.

“КЛУБ space positions itself as a place where you can feel safe without any limits. We were waiting for such a revolutionary place in Russia and we got it. It’s not a commercial space, it’s all about building a strong community based on equality principles,” explains Gunt. “For me, ГРАНЬ is a breath of fresh air in our fractured society, something new and outstanding. I am really proud to be a part of it.”
