This is the 7th Annual Witches Purim EXTRAvaganza. This party is a portal for decadent celebration of queer and Jewish bodies, narratives, resistance, resilience and creativity. We strive to create a safer space for the intersections of party, prayer and play for any and every body to connect to themselves and community. We will not tolerate any sort of culturally appropriative costumes, anti-blackness, anti-semetism, racism, ableism, fatphobia, transphobia, misogyny, xenophobia, islamophobia, or otherwise biggotted behavior.

WE INVOKE:
The witch as the guardian of higher levels of consciousness!!! The witch, who never resents the merit of those who have passed through hell. She knows, to reach our own fullest potential, we must face our woundedness. To reach glory, we must suffer humiliation. PAIN TURNS PEOPLE INTO VASTLY MORE INTERESTING CHARACTERS!

WHAT IS PURIM?
Purim is a Jewish holiday celebrating redemption. It is centered around the re-telling of the Megillah, the story of the salvation of the Jewish people in ancient Persia from an evil plot to "destroy, kill, and annihilate all the Jews, young and old, infants and women..." (from the Megillah: the Book of Esther).

Celebrants are encouraged to actively engage in the embodiment of this story by dressing as a character from the Purim Story and getting so drunk that eventually we cannot tell the difference between the hero (Mordechai) and the villain (Haman), thus disrupting our steely grip on the imagined polarity between good and evil.

WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF THIS HOLIDAY AND HOW IS IT RELEVANT?
The Purim Shpeel ("play": Yiddish) is the origin of Yiddish theater. Players would travel town to town performing a Purim Shpeel infused with funny, poignant, powerful metaphors about the political situation of the day. Thus, radical imaging was expressed even in times when to do so was to risk one's own life. Purim is also the origin of Jewish drag.
